lyrics

Michael:
Falling through the center of the felt planet in a jewelry box, that did contain elegant seating options it must be said, was definitely one of the worst-case scenarios of their plan. Had they bothered to make a worst-case list. Or a plan. Really, the whole affair was being very irresponsibly approached. And since it would take about a day to fall through to the other side, Jill and Isabela decided they might as well get blindingly drunk.

Isabela:
Well listen dear I know that this affair has gone to pot
But I’ll remind you why we did it since I guess some time we’ve got,
We had to steal the royal ring the prince occasionally wore
Because the prince was set to marry that nice peasant girl for sure.

What the prince did not know is the peasant girl was set
To inherit massive tracts of land her wealthy uncle left.
Her mother had been shunned because a journeyman she’d wed
But the girl you see is now the only family that is left.

The only ones who know this are some lawyers and they know
If the girl should die the land will simply go into escrow
Then the lawyers can disperse it to themselves except their clerk
And the wife of the head lawyer they have sex while he’s at work

The clerk has found a secret will the uncle made which says
If the final relative should die the land will go instead
To the church who hates the prince and if the church should get the land
The prince will kill the lawyers chopping off their heads and hands

How sublime a little crime to pass the time away
No better fun with friends than when you’re planning escapades
What’s better than martinis while you hatch a fiendish scheme
The spice of life my friends is the delight of the intrigue

Jill:
What more could be
The seasoning that makes the day pristine
So savory
The spice of life delight of the intrigue

Isabela:
But the girl my dear is sleeping with a handsome palace guard
And the two have hatched a plan to rob the prince that’s quite bizarre
On his wedding night the prince will drink insane amounts and then
He will leave the royal ring upon the nightstand near his bed

The palace guard will sneak in while the prince is passed out drunk
And he’ll steal the ring and throw it from the tower to his mum
His mum will take the ring and because she’s having sex
With the lawyer I had talked about, the ring they’ll try to fence

The ring it has a buyer who will pay a massive sum
And the buyer is the princess, yes his sister, do keep up
She will need the royal ring to lay her rightful claim its true
To the throne and then she’ll take it in a well-planned palace coup

The princess is the oldest and she should have been the queen
But the prince he had been sleeping with the chancellor you see
So when the king fell deep into the coma where he lays
The prince was put in power and his sister fumes in rage

How sublime a little crime to pass the time away
No better fun with friends than when you’re planning escapades
What’s better than martinis while you hatch a fiendish scheme
The spice of life my friends is the delight of the intrigue

Jill:
What more could be
The seasoning that makes the day pristine
So savory
The spice of life delight of the intrigue

23:
And wrapped in a pale coat of longing and regret she stumbles awkwardly into her future

And into the mist and the song

Wishing a her that had less erosion, although more confusion, less weariness and more vigor who could’ve seen the dots better

The girl disappears and is gone

The dots that were the stepping stones to better outcomes, from the haze of youth to the satisfaction of maturity

Where time rests when day goes too long

But there were no dots, just an almost comical fumbling through the fog as if over inebriated with cheap spirits

The girl disappears and is gone

The dots could have been the rocks of wise choices, the strategic haven of careful foresight

The child for whom once you had longed

But instead, the dots were reckless moments of joy and spontaneity, foolish sometimes in hindsight but precious then like water

The girl disappears and is gone

Dots of those few she loves who are with her even now within the pale coat of longing and regret she pulls closer around her

The girl disappears and is gone
...

Isabela:
How sublime a little crime to pass the time away
No better fun with friends than when you’re planning escapades
What’s better than martinis while you hatch a fiendish scheme
The spice of life my friends is the delight of the intrigue

Jill:
What more could be
The seasoning that makes the day pristine
So savory
The spice of life delight of the intrigue

Isabela:
But the princess has a lover and her lover is the priest
Who is marrying the peasant girl, and now he knows and he
Well, he has another lover who he’s told about this plan
But his lover is the brother of the peasant girl, so then

The brother wants to stop his sister’s marriage, this is true
If she’s married to the prince when the princess throws the coup
Her life will end quite early, and would not be worth a thing
But now my dear it seems that you and I possess the ring

How sublime a little crime to pass the time away
No better fun with friends than when you’re planning escapades
What’s better than martinis while you hatch a fiendish scheme
The spice of life my friends is the delight of the intrigue
